From October 27 to November 17, for the first time in the history of Ukraine, the auction house "Golden Section" will present an exhibition-sale of works by the famous French impressionist Jean-Louis Forein - "Behind the scenes of the irony of Jean-Louis Forein".
Foren was a participant in the first Impressionist exhibitions along with Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin and other geniuses of the era. Degas considered him his best friend, they wrote sketches side by side behind the scenes of the opera, watching the ballerinas. Cézanne adored Forein's satirical drawings, and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec called him his teacher and patron and was inspired by his work.
The Kiev exhibition of Foren's works covers all periods of the author's work, as well as all the themes and techniques that the author used to create his masterpieces. The viewer will enjoy works in the technique of oil, watercolors, pastels, ink and pencil. The works of Jean-Louis Forein will allow visitors to the exhibition to plunge into the atmosphere of Paris at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, to feel the emotional state of the heroes of his plots and to get aesthetic pleasure from the brilliant writing technique of this master.
In total, the exhibition features 21 original works of the artist. All works of the exhibition belong to a Ukrainian collector, who for a long time studied Foren's work and acquired his masterpieces all over the world - from private collections in Europe and the USA. Many of them have been featured in famous exhibitions such as Degas, Foren, Toulouse-Lautrec at the Portland Art Museum, for example. The authenticity of the paintings and drawings has been confirmed by the official society of Jean-Louis Forein under the direction of Madame Valdes-Forein (the artist's great-granddaughter) and all of them will be published in the catalog-reason of Forein's works.
“Foren was very popular and such famous collectors as Rockefeller, Shchukin and Morozov dreamed of owning his works. Forein's works are kept in the British Museum, the Hermitage, the Metropolitan Museum and the Louvre, as well as in other museums around the world. The cost of Foren's work at Christie's and Sotheby's auctions is growing every year, sometimes the price reaches several million dollars for the work,” - said Mikhail Vasilenko, co-owner of the Golden Section auction house.
