Bokshai Yosyp (1891-1975) - Ukrainian painter and teacher. Born in Kobyletska Polyana, Zakarpattia region. Author of landscapes, religious compositions, portraits and still lifes. People's Artist of Ukraine (1963), corresponding member of Ukraine Academy of Arts (1958). He studied at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts (1910-1914) I. Revesz. He worked in Uzhgorod (1918). Along with A. Erdelyi organized the first exhibition of Transcarpathian artists (1921), opened Uzhgorod Art School (1927), initiator of the Fine Arts Society leaders in Subcarpathian Rus' (1931). He taught at the Uzhgorod School of Art (1945-1957) and Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (1951-1957). He lived and worked in Uzhgorod. For outstanding achievements in promoting the fine arts of Transcarpathian region in 1990, the art museum is named coryphaeus Uzhhorod Transcarpathian school of painting, now it is called - Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum named Yosyp Bokshay.
