From February 28 to March 10, 2009, the Kiev Museum of Russian Art (exhibition hall) will host a unique exhibition of its kind, a spectacle for true connoisseurs of Russian Orthodox art - "Russian icon of the 17th - early 20th centuries." from private collections. The organizer of the exhibition is the Auction House "Golden Section".
“The works of icon painting, which we introduce to the visitors of the exhibition, are being publicly exhibited for the first time. The exposition consists of a number of personal collections of Kyiv collectors, and this is about 150 icons. All these collections, compiled over several decades, have one thing in common (apart from the subject matter) - they are mature collections with a well-established, selective composition, ”commented the organizers. The chronology of the exhibited icons covers the period from the early 17th to the early 20th century. Actually, ancient Russian painting is represented, therefore, by its sunset period, but on the other hand, by high-quality samples.
In Russia, exhibitions of this kind cause a general stir, and are held regularly. Russian Orthodox icon, along with painting, is one of the main directions of the Golden Section auction house. The public nature of the launched action is dictated by the educational goals of the Golden Section auction house, or, more simply, by the desire to share with society the joy of seeing and comprehending the creations of ancient Russian icon painting masters.
Especially for this exhibition, a fundamental catalog has been published, which includes 114 of the best icons from private collections, which can be seen live by visiting the museum. Exhibition "Russian icon of the 17th - early 20th centuries" occupies a worthy place in the exhibition and artistic life of the capital.
The grand opening of the exhibition will take place on February 27, at 17:00, in the exhibition hall of the Kyiv Museum of Russian Art. At the end of the opening ceremony, at 18:00, a press approach will take place, where representatives of the media will be able to receive individual interviews and ask all their questions to the organizers and guests of the exhibition.
Exhibition "Russian icon of the 17th - early 20th centuries" will be open to visitors daily from February 28 to March 10, 2009:
Daily - from 10:00 to 18:00 (ticket office until 17:00)
Monday - from 11:00 to 18:00 (ticket office until 17:00)
