Viktor Chaus (1940-2019) was a Ukrainian artist, master of painting. He was born in Yampil, Donetsk region. He studied at the Crimean Art School named after M. Samokysh. He graduated from the Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute (1941) with a degree in Monumental and Decorative Painting, where he studied with Yegorov, Kolesnyk, Kosarev. He has been working as a lecturer at the institute since 1971, professor of the Department of Painting (2000), head of the creative workshop of portraiture. Member of the National Union of Artists (1982). Head of the painting section of the Kharkiv National Academy of Arts (since 1998). Honoured Artist of Ukraine (2000). V. Chaus is a bright master of painting, the author of works that attract with their frankness, warmth, enchanting variety and complexity of the technique.
