Author Biography
Tkachenko Mykhaylo (1860-1916) - Ukrainian painter. Born in Kharkiv. He studied at Petersburg Academy of Arts under P. Chystyakov, V. Orlovsky and M. Klodt (1880 – 1888). During that time of his studies he received all the possible academic awards. Moved to Paris where he stayed permanently (1888). Member of the Russian club of artists. Had personal exhibitions in Paris (1898, 1906, 1909). Participant of the Exposition Universelle (1900, Second golden medal), International exhibition in Liege (1905, Golden medal) and many others. Held the position of the Chief artist of Navy of the Russian Empire (since 1902). He was awarded the order of the Legion of Honor (1989), held the imperial order of Saint Stanislav of the III grade (1909). His works are stored in the National Museum of Arts of Ukraine, in museums of Kharkiv, Lviv, Paris, Liege and Toulon.
