Author Biography
Zaretskyi Viktor (1925-1990) - Ukrainian painter, master of landscape and genre painting. Born in Bilopillya, Sumy region. He graduated from the Kyiv Institute of Art, where he studied under G.Titov, S.Hrigoriev, Mykhailo Sharonov (1953). Worked in easel and monumental painting genres. One of the most skillful draftsman of Ukraine. He organized his studio of drawings (1978-1985). Viktor Zaretskyi was awarded the Shevchenko State Prize (1994). The National Academy of Fine Arts of Ukraine and Union of Ukrainian Artist installed Prize of Viktor Zaretsky for young artists. His works are stored in museums in Ukraine and the world. He lived and worked in Kyiv. Horska Alla (1929-1970) - Ukrainian painter and prominent figure in the human rights movement of the 1960s in Ukraine. She graduated from the Kyiv state art institute (1954). Worked in easel and monumental painting. Participant in various republican exhibitions. She lived and worked in Yalta and Kyiv. She was the first wife of V. Zaretskyi. Horska was one of the organizers of the Creative Youth Club "Contemporary" in Kyiv (1959-1964). For participation in protests (1965-1968) against the massacre of Ukrainian human rights activists - B. and M. Horin, P. Zalyvakha, S. Karavanskyi, V. Moroz, V. Chornovil and others Horska was again disqualified from the Union of Artists and suffered persecution by the Soviet security. Tragically died. Halyna Zubchenko (1929-2000) is a Ukrainian artist, monumentalist, public figure. She was born in Kyiv. Studied at the Republican Art School named after T. Shevchenko (1944-1949); Kyiv State Art Institute (1954-1959), where she studied with A. Shovkunenko. She was among the founders of the visual section of the Creative Youth Club of Kyiv (1962-1964). She was a member of the bureau, secretary of the monumental section of the Kyiv Union of Artists. Worked with A. Gorskaya, O. Zalivakha, G. Sevruk, L. Semikina, etc. Author and co-author of many monumental mosaics in Ukraine. An active participant in numerous group and personal exhibitions. The works were included in the collections of the Kolomyia Museum of Folk Art of the Hutsul Region, the Mariupol Art Gallery named after Kuindzhi, Kirovohrad Art Museum, Simferopol Art Museum, Sevastopol Art Gallery, Ivan Honchar Museum, as well as art galleries and private collections of the USA, Canada, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Germany, Croatia.
