Author Biography
Chychkan Illia (born in 1967) - Ukrainian artist, photographer and video artist, author of performances, art objects and installations. Born in Kyiv. He was invited to the Manifesta, the European Biennial of Contempopary Art (2004). Chichkan's project was represented by Ukraine at the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009). Participant of numerous personal and group exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Lives and works in Kyiv and Goa, India.

Carpet "Boyce 2000 Zent", triptych, 2000

The work is dedicated to Joseph Beuys. While serving in the Luftwaffe of Nazi Germany, he was shot down over the Crimean coast. His Junkers fell near a Crimean Tatar settlement and was nursed back to health by a Tatar woman. Hypothetically, this woman wove carpets using the old Tatar technology based on the artist's sketches.
