Mykhailo Berkos (1861-1919) is a Ukrainian painter of Greek origin. He was born in Odessa. He graduated from the Odesa Drawing School, then studied painting at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of M. Klodt and V. Orlovsky. Awarded small and large silver medals (1884-1886), gold medal (1887), large gold medal (1888). Received the title of class artist of the 1st degree. Retired AM in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland. As the head of the Society of Kharkiv Artists (since 1907), he carried out extensive work on the popularization of Ukrainian painting, landscape and historical and local history paintings. The main theme of art was the Ukrainian landscape, specific features of nature, the nature of vegetation. The works are stored in the National State University of Ukraine, in the museums of Kharkiv, Lviv, as well as in the Zaporizhia and Sumy Museums of Art. Lived and worked in Kharkiv.
