Auction #55
CLASSIC & CONTEMPORARY ART
Press release
55th anniversary auction of collectible art at Goldens auction house. Rare works by Ivan Marchuk, Mykola Hlushchenko, Viktor Zaretskyi, Serhii Shyshko and Maria Prymachenko are up for auction.
From March 9 to 16, the Goldens auction house will hold auctions of Ukrainian classical and contemporary art. 40 paintings, graphic works and sculptures of the most famous Ukrainian artists of the 20th-21st centuries were included in the selection of 55 of the "CLASSIC & CONTEMPORARY ART" auction. Among the lots are rare works of museum quality that have been kept in private collections for years, as well as many works published in books and albums.
The CLASSIC & CONTEMPORARY ART auction exhibition and silent auction will begin on March 9. The exhibition can be seen until March 16 inclusive. Bids for lots are accepted in the silent auction mode in the exhibition hall and on the website www.gs-art.com in the catalog section of the 55th auction. The final bidding of the auction will be held on March 16 (Thursday) during the day, and at 19:00 on March 16, bidding for lots will be completed at the last current bid. In the last minutes, the automatic "anti-sniper" system works, which adds 5 minutes to the next bet.
Among the TOP lots of the auction, it is worth noting Ivan Marchuk's collection work "Silhouette" (1990), made in the master's unique technique - plantanism. Ivan Marchuk is widely known outside Ukraine, so since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he has continued to popularize Ukrainian art outside his homeland, participating in international auctions and exhibitions. Many works that are currently exhibited at exhibition projects in Europe come mostly from the master's own collection. Yes, a work similar to the plot, but in a different color, is currently on display at the "Archetype of Freedom" exhibition in Krakow.
The well-known work of the "Klimt" period by Viktor Zaretsky "Spring" (1987) deserves special attention of collectors. The author often referred to spring landscapes in his works, it can be assumed that spring was his favorite season. However, this time Zaretsky went beyond traditional images and filled "Spring" with allegories: a naked girl hung with jewelry seems to symbolize the beginning of a thaw. The work has been published in several publications dedicated to the artist.
A unique find is Serhii Shishko's landscapes "Fountain in Mariinsky Park" (1950s) and "Winter" (1950s). A sought-after, but rarely sold, cycle of works dedicated to Kyiv, this time presented at the auction by a symbol of the capital - a fountain, which is located in the Mariinsky Park to this day. Another lot, "Winter" (1950s), comes from Shishka's cycle of landscapes, which are distinguished by their light tonality, gentleness of color and transparency.
Another top lot of the auction is Mykola Hlushchenko's work "Flowering Garden". The work was created in 1964, the most fruitful and representative period of Hlushchenko's creativity, in which he developed as an extraordinary colorist, known to all connoisseurs of Ukrainian art.
The selection of TOP lots is complemented by two bright graphic works by Maria Prymachenko, among which are "Three storks walking across Ukraine..." (1992). The creativity of this famous craftswoman is full of appeals to Ukrainian traditions and symbols, so the pea is a symbol of misfortune and trouble, and the stork was considered a bird of fate, a harbinger of happiness and well-being. Today, the value of the work presented at the auction is surprisingly relevant for every Ukrainian, because it reflects the state in which the whole of Ukraine is - waiting for our "storks".
The central lots of the auction were also the works of famous Transcarpathians: the landscape of the ancient village of Chertezh with the same name "Cheretezh" (1934) by Josyp Bokshay; autumn mountain landscape by Fedir Manayla "Autumns" (1961); the rich and colorful "Mountain Landscape" (1990s) by Volodymyr Mykyta and the portrait "Girl with a Hutsulka" (1930s) by Andrii Kotsky.
The selection of the auction was also decorated with rare Crimean landscapes: "Veranda of the house of A.P. Chekhov in Gurzuf" (1973) by Pyotr Stolyarenko and "Still Life with Watermelons" (1953) by Viktor Puzyrkov.
Other prominent names in the auction collection are Mykola Glushchenko, Vasyl Khmelyuk, Mykhailo Zhuk, Maksymilian Voloshyn, Valentina Tsvetkova, Tetiana Yablonska, Andrii Sagaidakovskyi, Yuriy Ruban, Anatoly Kryvolap, Yuriy Koval and others.
