Press release

An auction of classical and modern art will take place on March 2 at the Zolotoe Sechenie auction house in Kyiv.

The pre-auction exhibition called Classic and Contemporary Art will start its work on February 22. Collectors will be able to see the exhibition until March 2 inclusive.

Bids for lots in the silent auction mode will be accepted in the exhibition hall and on the website www.gs-art.com during the exhibition. Due to the pandemic, the results of the auction will be summed up online, at 19.00, March 2. Those interested will be able to compete for the works they like on the website and by phone.

The advantage in the auction collection this time is given to classic works - they make up two-thirds of the collection. But the block of contemporary art is also represented by high-level painting from the most prominent Ukrainian artists of our time. For the collection of the forty-seventh auction, the organizers managed to find a number of rare works of outstanding classics of Ukrainian art from private collections.

Thus, the auction will feature paintings by Joseph Bokshay: "Strebske Pleso", 1968 and "Hutsulka", 1956 with starting prices of $ 30,000 and $ 5,000, respectively. Traditionally, the auction will feature three works by Kyiv artist Viktor Zaretsky "Origins of Art" (1988, start $ 25,000), "Dandelions" and his graphic work of the sixties (for $ 2,000). Mykola Glushchenko's painting "Summer" of the 1950s can be a profitable investment, as Glushchenko's work left the auction at the last auction with a significant excess of the appraised value, as well as a semi-abstract composition of 1989 entitled "Where are you, my path" by Ivan Marchuk ( now the prices for his paintings are growing steadily and rapidly). Among the landmark works of the auction are also works by Roman Selsky, Ivan Trush, Oleksiy Shovkunenko, Fedor Zakharov, Maria Prymachenko and representatives of the Transcarpathian school: Adalbert Erdely, Andriy Kotska, Adalbert Boretsky and Fedor Manailo. You can also compete for paintings by famous emigrant artists - David Burliuk, Vasyl Khmelyuk, Lydia Mandel and Jacques Shapiro. A significant number of works in the collection have been published in exhibition catalogues, monographs and research publications.

Among the top lots of the section of contemporary art of the auction: works by representatives of the art group of the 1990s: Anatoly Krivolap, Tiberius Silvashi, Mark Geiko and Alexander Zhyvotkov. Among the well-known names of the works will be presented such as Roman Zhuk, Alexander Roitburd, Vasily Tsagolov, Igor Gusev, Artem Volokitin, Mikhail Deyak, Matthew Weisberg, Yuri Koval. For the first time in a long time, a large-scale pyrographic work by the artist of the "new wave" of Ukrainian art Kyryl Protsenko will be exhibited (previously exhibited at the last lifetime exhibition of the author in 2017 and his retrospective at the Art Arsenal in 2018). Among the objects on display will be the work "Love" by Roman Minin, whose works have long been known abroad; bronze "Hammerhead Shark" by Volodymyr Mykytenko, sculptures by Valery Fedichev and Serhiy Shaulis.

A total of 47 collectable works have been put up for auction, and the auction catalogue can be viewed at gs-art.com.

The auction will end on March 2 at 19:00.

The exhibition is open for viewing:
February 22 - March 2, 2021
From 11:00 to 19:00, Sunday is a day off.
