Sculptural object "Palyanytsia", 2022
stone,
10 х 25 х 15 cm
This famous work was presented at the Venice Biennale, where the Ukrainian artist presented the Palianytsia project. This is a series of objects made of river stones in the shape of a palyanytsia, a traditional Ukrainian bread.

"The project was inspired by the Transcarpathian region, where we arrived two weeks after the start of the full-scale invasion. Here the villages of the Carpathians are protected, there are many mountain rivers; their waters run fast and polish the stones. There are no strategic facilities like airfields, military bases and weapons depots, so we think we are safe. Although air raid sirens sometimes sound. Upon arrival, we stayed in a crowded, expensive hotel in the district center. We did a lot of walking and traveling around the area trying to find our place, and that's when we noticed the river rocks. We began to look at them more closely, and this idea came to mind. There was no time for distance and analysis, the need to do something and be useful grew! Palyanytsa means bread. In the classical sense, it is a large round bread baked in the oven. At the beginning of the war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine, the word "burner" became a symbol, because the Russian occupiers cannot pronounce it correctly. It became our sign, which helps to unmistakably distinguish friends from enemies."
