Author Biography
Francisco José de Goya (1746-1828) is a Spanish painter and engraver. He was born in Zaragoza in a family of goldsmiths. Goya tried to join the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (1763, 1766), but was denied entry. Member of the Royal Academy of Arts (1765), after which he worked for 5 years on cardboard for the Royal Tapestry Workshop. He was an artist at the court of Carlos III (1786) and Carlos IV (1789), chief court painter (1799). He moved to Bordeaux, France (1824), where he lived until the end of his life.
