Author Biography
Lucas van Leiden (1494-1533) - Dutch painter and engraver. Born in Leiden, The Netherlands. He studied with his father, Hugo Jacobs, and then with Cornelius Engelbrechsen. Previously mastered the art of engraving, worked in Leiden and Middelburg. Member of the Leiden Painter's Guild (1514) and St. Luke's Guild in Antwerp (1522). He lived in Antwerp for some time, after which he returned to Leiden, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.
