Biography
Volodymyr Savchak (1911-2007) — Ukrainian painter, landscape painter. Emigrant. Studied in Lviv (1934-1935) and the Warsaw Academy of Arts (1935-1939). During the first Soviet occupation, he was a decorator at the Berezhany Theater, and taught drawing at the Berezhany Gymnasium. Emigrated first to Germany, then to Australia (1948). Lived and worked in Melbourne, Brisbane, Katoomba (since 1970). Solo exhibitions (since 1956). Author of Australian landscapes. Savchak's works have been exhibited in Ukraine since 1993. At the exhibition "Artists of the Blue Mountains" (Australia), he received the award for "Best Local Artist". Savchak's paintings depicting central Australia are notable for their skillful use of light and color, as well as his penetrating vision and artistic reflection of what he observed.
