Biography
Anna Samarska (born 1941) is a Ukrainian artist, a master of folk decorative painting and Petrykiv painting. She was born in the village of Bohdanivka, Poltava region. At the age of ten (1952), she met Kateryna Bilokur, a fellow villager, who became her spiritual mentor and teacher for the rest of her life, until Bilokur's death. It continues the creative ideas of Kateryna Bilokur and the craftsmen from Petrykyvka. She worked at the Kyiv factory of souvenirs (1960-1961), where she mastered the principles of Petrykiv painting, mainly studying the works of T. Pata's students who worked in Kyiv, in particular Marfa Timchenko. Later, she moved to Petrykivka, where she worked at the Petrykivka Painting Factory "Friendship" (1961-1990). She was a member of the artistic council of the factory and led a group of craftsmen. Honored Master of Folk Art of the Ukrainian SSR (1974). Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (1977). People's Artist of Ukraine (2009). Awarded the "Badge of Honor" order (1974). Lives and works in Petrykivka.
