Biography
Petrov Andrew (1894-1975) - an artist of Russian emigration. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He studied at the TZH Drawing School (1909-1914). He graduated with a gold medal and a drawing teacher's diploma. During his studies he was engaged in interior design and scenography. He made his successful debut at the International Exhibition of Graphics and Printing (1914, Leipzig). He settled in Paris (1919), entered the School of Fine Arts (1920), where he studied with F. Cormon. He moved to Nice (1923). He traveled extensively in Corsica (1930), Morocco, Algeria (1931-1932), and Italy (1935-1938). He participated in group exhibitions in Nice (1937-1943), on the French Riviera (1947-1951), Monte Carlo (1958), London (1960), Rome (1968-1969). Personal exhibitions took place in Nice (1927, 1929, 1935, 1971), Paris (1935, 1936), The Hague (1936-1938, 1953, 1954, 1956), Cagnes-sur-Mer (France, 1973). He worked in the technique of easel painting and watercolors. He worked in the genres of landscape, still life and portrait. Favorite motifs were the ancient streets and the port of Nice, views of the Netherlands with windmills. The works are presented in museums in Nice, Grenoble, The Hague and other cities.
