Biography
Carlo Zvirynsky (1923-1997) was a Ukrainian pedagogue, painter, graphic artist, and icon painter. He was born in the village of Lavriv, Lviv region He studied at the Lviv School of Arts and Crafts (1942-1943); Free Ukrainian Academy of Arts (1943-1944); Lviv Art School (1945–1946) with R. Selsky, with whom he later became friends; Lviv Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (1947-1953) at the Department of Monumental Painting, diploma supervisor - J. Bokshay. He created an underground school for young people (1959), in order to form a younger generation, which was eventually called "K. Zvirynsky's underground school" (lasted almost 10 years). K. Zvirynsky paid special attention to the study of the achievements of world culture and the development of national consciousness. In the School, in addition to painting, composition, studied the history of Ukraine, world art, literature, music, religion. Her first students were: Bokotey A., Hrytsyk P., Marchuk I., Minko O., Markovych P., Petruk R., Soyka B., Flinta Z., Shabatura S. Teacher of painting at the Lviv School of Applied and Decorative Arts ( 1953—1959); senior lecturer in painting at the Lviv Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (1959-1982); teacher of the School of Icon Painting named after St. Luke at the monastery of the Studite Fathers (1992-1995). Associate Professor of Monumental Decorative Painting (1997). Expert on monumental painting and decoration in the churches of the Lviv Archdiocese of the UGCC (since 1992). Member of UWC (since 1992). Honored Artist of Ukraine (1997).
