Johannes Wierix (1549-1620) - Flemish engraver and publisher. Johannes Vierix was born in Antwerp in the family of painter and cabinet maker Anton Virix. He began his engraving career by producing reproductions of Durer's works and other artists. Worked with Christopher Planten (since 1569), became a master engraver, registered with the St. Luke's Guild in Antwerp (1572-73). He lived in Delft (1579), and after returning to Antwerp worked as a publisher with many artists. He moved to Brussels (1612), where he lived and worked the rest of his life.
