Mykhailo Lishchyner. METAPHYSICS OF INNER LIGHT
Press release
Mykhailo Lishchyner. Metaphysics of Inner Light
From November 13 to December 4, the Goldens auction house will host a personal exhibition of paintings by Mykhailo Lishchyner. The exhibition opens a new perspective on the legacy of one of the brightest representatives of the modernist tradition of the Lviv school of painting.
Mykhailo Lishchyner (1912–1992) is an exceptional and paradoxical figure. Formally, he belonged to the Soviet art system, but he created his own language of inner resistance - a space where color, form and rhythm turned into carriers of spiritual freedom.
His canvases combine a geometric structure, a restrained palette and musical rhythm, thanks to which the works are perceived as peculiar color scores. They echo the philosophy of the Bauhaus, the searches of Paul Klee and Josef Albers, but remain deeply personal, filled with inner light and peace.
The exhibition brings together over twenty works created between the 1960s and the early 1990s. The artist achieves a balance between rational construction and the metaphysical sensation of light, thinking of color as music, and painting as a form of meditation. His light emanates from within, revealing the spiritual presence of things and figures.
Among the key works of the exhibition are “Trumpeter” (1970), where color becomes the architectonics of sound; “Practical Study” (1967), which acts as a metaphor for the creative act; “Bottle Parade” (1972) as an intellectual still life protest against the standardization of Soviet life; “Awakening” (1976) and “Dreams” (1983) — the pinnacles of Lishchiner’s meditative painting, in which corporeality is transformed into spiritual energy.
This exhibition is an attempt to immerse oneself in the artist's inner universe, where geometry and harmony of color create a state of contemplation. Lishchiner belongs to those artists who, while remaining within the Soviet space, managed to preserve the autonomy of thinking and build their own universe - a light that does not go out.
The exhibition is open to the public from November 13 to December 4, Monday to Saturday from 12:00 to 19:00.
