Author Biography
Leopold Levytskyi (1906-1973) – painter, graphic artist, sculptor. Born in the village Burdyakivtsi (Austria-Hungary, now Ternopil region). Entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (1925). Initiator and active member of the progressive artistic organization «Krakow Group» (1932-1937). He was expelled from the Academy for exhibiting revolutionary graphics (1932). Settled in Lviv (since 1944). He made illustrations for the works of I. Franko, I. Olbrecht and others. Participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. The first personal exhibition took place after the death of the artist (1974). Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1970). The Art Memorial Museum of L. Levytsky was opened in Lviv (1984) and in the village of Burdyakivtsi (1996).
