Author Biography
Mykola Krychevskyi (1898-1961) was a Ukrainian painter, theater artist, graphic artist. He was born in Kharkiv. The son of the artist Vasyl Krychevskyi, from whom he received his initial art education. Graduated from the 4th Kyiv Gymnasium (1917). He worked as an artist and actor in the theater of M. Sadovskyi, whom he went on a tour of Europe with (1919); artist of the Russian Theater of the "Prosvita" society (Uzhhorod). He continued his art education at J. Bokshai. Later he moved to Czechoslovakia, where he graduated from the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Arts and the Art and Industrial School (Prague, 1928). Moved to Paris (1929). Designed theatrical performances ("Theatre des Arts", 1939; "Theatre Hebertot", 1942, etc.). Personal exhibitions in Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Canada, the USA. Participant of the Second World War, awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor. He was fluent in various techniques (gouache, oil, tempera, etc.), but became famous as a virtuoso watercolorist, a master of lyrical urban landscapes. Traveling through Europe, he created hundreds of watercolor landscapes of France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.
