Author Biography
Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) is a Swiss sculptor, painter and graphic artist, one of the greatest masters of the 20th century. Born in Borgonovo, Switzerland, in the family of the artist Giovanni Giacetti. Interest in art arose in Alberto already in his early childhood, he was engaged in molding and painting. He studied painting in Geneva (1919 - 1920), at the School of Fine Arts and the School of Arts and Crafts in the class of sculptures. He traveled to Italy (1920-1921), where he became acquainted with the classics of Italian art and monuments of Ancient Rome. From 1922 he lived and worked in Paris, where he became close friends with Andre Breton, Louis Aragon, Picasso, Miro and others. Studied at the studio Grand Schomier in Paris (1922-1925) at EA Burdeill. It was published in the journal Surrealism in the service of the revolution. In 1927, his works were presented at Salon Thuilier, the first personal exhibition took place in 1932. The sculpture of these years (The Woman-Spoon, 1926; The Cage ", 1930; The Woman with the Cut Throat; 1932; Surrealistic Table, 1933 ) combines elements of Cubism with aggression and eroticism. After the war, he lived and worked in Geneva. Shown in a denomination worth 100 Swiss francs.
