Biography
Glyukman (Glikman) Grigory (1898-1973) - Russian and American graphic artist, painter. Born in Belarus. He entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1917), but three years later emigrated to Berlin, where he changed his name from Glickman to Gluckmann. He joined the literary and artistic community "Spindle" (1922). He settled in Paris (1924), where his first solo exhibition took place at the Drouot Gallery. Gluckman was actively exhibited in the "Tuileries Salon", "Autumn Salon", "Salon of Independents", at exhibitions of the "National Society of Fine Arts". Held more than ten solo exhibitions in Paris, London and New York (1924-1939). He participated in exhibitions of Russian art in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris. He worked in the field of book graphics. In the 1930s, Gluckman was mainly engaged in easel painting. At that time, his main themes were scenes from Parisian street life, landscapes, portraits, "nude". He emigrated to the United States (1941), settled in New York, where during the war he held several solo exhibitions. Retrospective exhibitions of the artist took place in Paris (1955) and New York (1967-1968). Grigory Gluckman's works are exhibited in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Luxembourg Museum and the Petit Palais Museum in Paris, as well as in the museums of Le Havre, San Diego and Chicago.
