Leon Kovalsky (1870-1936) is a Ukrainian and Polish painter and graphic artist. He studied at the M. Murashko Art School in Kiev, and later at the Krakow Academy of Arts. His teachers were V. Luzhkevich, J. Uniierzhisky, L. Lefler, and L. Vychulkovsky. He received a scholarship from J. Matejko, as well as government grants, which allowed him to travel to Munich for a year and travel to Paris. In Munich he studied in the studio of K. Raupach, in Paris he studied in J.-P. Laurent. He wrote mostly genre and religious scenes, realistic portraits, landscapes, urban scenes and still lifes, and worked in lithography.
