Press release

A unique graphic exhibition will take place in Kyiv. The artist Nikita Vlasov will present a personal project "Lacuna"

June 5, at 19.00, a personal project of the Ukrainian artist Nikita Vlasov "Lakuna" will be opened at the auction house "Golden Section" (Kyiv, Pervomaisky St., 4).

More than 15 works of Chinese ink created by the craftsman during 2019 will be available to the public until June 20. Entrance to the exhibition for all interested persons is free.

Organizer: Golden Section Auction House. Project Curator: Oleksii Vasylenko. Art manager: Tetiana Pylypchuk.

The Lacuna is an experimental art project by Nikita Vlasov. Artist’s visualisation exists on the verge of philosophical fundamentals of classical Japanese calligraphy and the automatic writing of surrealists. The project combines three series of drawings: birds, people and aircrafts made in black Chinese ink on white paper on a large scale. The artist gives versatility to the formal laconism of the figurative means striving for the absolute vital truth. The pictorial component of the series refers to the possibility of the extraction of discrete acts from the flow of day-to-day experiences aimed to explore the human freedom. Each silhouette depicted by Vlasov is a generalizing image of personal sensory experience shaped in a long process of reflection and bringing the concept into being through monochrome characters on paper. The transformation of the idea into an artistic image lasts only a few minutes and acts as an essential prerequisite for the artist's authenticity. The dynamics and wholeness of each work illustrates the possibility of articulation of narrative and ideological lacunas which emerges on the border of sensuality and the impossibility of its verbal expression. This is the universal issue, which deeply rooted in world philosophical traditions, now is being actualised in the Lacuna, the new series by Vlasov.

"Perhaps that happened to me, or even it happens to everyone. Without semantic specifics, the depth of Lacuna project imagery is only revealed to the watchful eye of a free human being” Nikita Vlasov comments.

"The Lacuna of Nikita Vlasov is another dimension in his work, found by the artist through his numerous quests in aesthetics of minimalism and calligraphy art," – Tetiana Pylypchuk, art manager says.

The exhibition is open from Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00.

Sunday is the weekend.

Abot the artist: Nikita Vlasov graduated from Pridneprovska State Academy of Construction and Architecture, Dnipro, Ukraine.
