Biography of the author

Marfa Tymchenko (1922-2009) is a Ukrainian artist. She was born in the village of Petrykivka, Dnipropetrovsk region. She worked in the field of decorative arts (paintings on porcelain), monumental painting, undercoat painting on wood (children's furniture, boxes), book graphics, created posters, art postcards. Oleksandr Stativa, who contributed to the opening of the Petrykiv Art School became her first teacher in elementary school where Marfa studied during 1936-1938. She studied at the Kyiv School of Masters of Folk Art (1938-1940s) with O. Kulik, M. Rokytskyi, and T. Flora, but did not finish her studies due to difficulties. She worked at the Kyiv Experimental Ceramic-Art Factory, the Korosten Porcelain Factory, the Institute of Art Industry of the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR, the Kyiv Experimental Ceramic-Art Factory (1954-1977). Honored Master of Folk Art (since 1960); Order "Badge of Honor" (1967); Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Republic of the Ukrainian SSR (1973); People's Artist (since 1977); the first laureate of the award named after K. Bilokur (1990); Shevchenko Prize (2000). Lived in Kyiv.
