Author Biography
David Remfry (born 1942) was born in Worthing, UK. His family moved to Hull where he studied at the Art College of Art. Member of the Royal Watercolor Society (since 1987), Member of the Royal Academy of Arts (since 2006), Honorary Doctor of Arts at the University of Lincoln (since 2007). Huck Casson Award Winner (2010). Proffesor of Painting at the Royal Academy School (since 2016). Active participant of exhibitions in Europe and the USA (since 1973). During the last five decades, his work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Remfrey's works are included in permanent museum collections: Bass Museum of Art and Boca Raton Art Museum (Florida); British Museum (London); Society of Contemporary Art (London); Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge); MIMA, Middlesborough; National Portrait Gallery (London) and many others. It is best known for its large-scale watercolors of dancers; a series of drawings of their neighbors and friends from the hotel Chelsea (New York), where he lived from 1995 to 2016. He currently lives and works in London.
