Author Biography
Marino Marini (1901-1980) - an Italian sculptor, painter and graphic artist. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts at Domenico Trentakost. By 1928, he was engaged in painting and drawing. He taught a picture at the art school at the Real Real Villa in Monza (1929-1940). From that time began to work with sculptures, which did not part to the end of life. In the late 1930s, many traveled throughout Europe, visiting Paris several times, as well as Germany, the Netherlands, and England. With the start of the Second World War, he moved to Switzerland, where he met Alberto Giacometti, Germain Richte, Hans Arp. After the war he returned to Milan, continuing to teach sculptures at the Academy of Brera, begun back in 1940. Marine's flourishing creativity dates back to the 1950s, when he received world recognition, becoming the winner of several honorary awards. Monumental statues, executed on its models, decorated the areas of Rotterdam, Brussels, Antwerp. One version of Diva was installed in the courtyard of the New York Museum of Contemporary Art. The sculptor performed the monument to the victims of the war for the city of Ayia (1959).
