Serge Poliakoff (Sergei Polyakov) (1900-1969) - a famous artist-abstractionist. Born in Moscow. From youth he was fascinated by music and painting. In order to receive artistic education, he entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, but after the start of revolutionary events, with his family left Moscow and moved to Tiflis. Subsequently, the family of Polyakov moved to Constantinople, then to Sofia, Belgrade, Vienna and Berlin. In 1923 Polyakov settled in Paris, where he took a serious career in painting. Graduated from the Grand Schoemaker Academy of Arts (1929). He studied at the Felix Slade School of Fine Arts in London (1935-1937) and moved there from academic painting to abstract art. In 1938, his first abstract paintings appeared in the Salon of the Independents, and in 1945, the first personal exhibition, through which he became widely known to the Parisian public, was published. In addition to painting, the artist often turned to color lithography, used collage technique, collaborated with the Sevres porcelain manufactory, creating sketches for painting dishes. The works are presented at the most famous museum collections (National Center for the Arts and Culture of George Pompidou in Paris, Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, British Tate Gallery in London, museums in Lille, Basel, Hamburg, Vienna) and private collections in the world.
