Author Biography
Matisse Henri Émile Benoît Matisse (1869-1954) is a French painter, sculptor, graphic artist, master of decorative art, one of the most original representatives of the fine arts of the early 20th century. Born in the north of France in the family of dealer of paint and corn. He painted portraits, genre paintings, still lifes, cardboards for stained-glass windows and tapestries. In 1887 he went to Paris to study jurisprudence at the School of Law. In 1888, after graduation, Henry, 18, received the right to work in this specialty. He returns to the small town of Saint-Cannet and begins to work as a lawyer's assistant. But later, he throws off the lawyer and goes to Paris to study at the School of Fine Arts (1893-1898). The works of Matisse are dominated by bright colors that emphasize the festive colorfulness of the world. Developed ornaments, linear arabesques; the main objects of the image were odaliski and dancers; Late works represent pure abstractions. For some time, Matisse attempted to design clothes. During his lifetime his paintings were exhibited in London, New York, Copenhagen, at the Autumn Salon in Paris. Many works were ordered and purchased by Russian philanthropists Morozov and Shchukin.
