Press release

October 21 at the Kiev Center for Contemporary Art M17 (St. Antonovycha, 104) will open a pre-auction exhibition of Ukrainian and Russian contemporary art. The collection includes 140 lots from leading artists of Ukraine and Russia.

The exhibition will present the entire spectrum of professional Ukrainian contemporary art from the mid-80s to the present moment: the periods of the Ukrainian transavant-garde, the New Wave, the Paris Commune. A significant part of the works are of collectible value. In particular, in this block one can single out the rare work "Pleiades" by Leonid Vartyvanov (1989), which belongs to the "New Wave" period. Similar to her in the spirit of the time and the early work of Oleg Golosiy "Dance" (1987).

Important elements of the collection are the early works of the creative tandems "Martynchiki" and "Peppers", whose works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery and the PinchukArtCentre. You can also note the work of the first Soviet hyperrealist Sergei Bazylev "Self-portrait" (1981), the work of Odessa D. Dulfan "Babby" (1991), L. Voitsekhov "Carving" (1989) and Anatoly Gankevich "Lost" ( 1992).

3-meter monumental canvases by Arsen Savadov and Alexander Gnilitsky are of exceptional collection interest. “Pride” by Arsen Savadov (2006) has since been exhibited at an exhibition in New York and will be shown in Kiev for the first time, and the work of Gnilitsky is currently the most desirable purchase of any collector of contemporary art, since this author is practically not represented on art market.

The section of contemporary art is represented by the works of O. Gusev, R. Zhuk, M. Mamsikov, S. Volyazlovsky, as well as the most famous domestic graphic artist P. Makov. One of the most remarkable exhibits of the exhibition is the painting "Julia" by Ilya Chichkan, painted by the artist back in 2008. In addition, it is worth noting the work of Alexander Roitburd and Anatoly Kryvolap - the most expensive (according to the results of sales of Western auctions) Ukrainian artists.

Moscow masters of contemporary art deserve special attention: Dmitry Vrubel (author of the art hit "The Kiss of L. Brezhnev with E. Honecker", performed on the Berlin Wall) with the work "The Last Pioneer" (1988), and the most scandalous contemporary artist in Moscow, extremist Alexander Savko, with the work "Maslenitsa" (2006), a remake of the famous painting "Boyar Morozova" by V. Surikov.

Also, the most complete collection of Ukrainian young art will be shown at the pre-auction exhibition. All current trends and techniques of contemporary art are also presented: photo, collage, street art, video art. The block of young artists is opened by the 2009 PinchukArtCentre Prize winner Artem Volokitin. In addition, the brightest representatives of the new generation will present their works: the REP group (N.Kadan, K.Gnilitskaya, V.Kuznetsov), the Ubik group, O.Suslenko, APL315, T.Kovach, as well as the nominees for PinchukArtCentre 2011 Prize: Masha Shubina, Hamlet Zinkovsky, Zhanna Kadyrova, and the winner of the MUHI 2011 competition, Danil Galkin.

Famous art objects will also be presented at the exhibition, among which is the work of Dmitry Kavsan "Imitation of shoe polish" (1990) - an object of museum level, made from the door of the studio of artists of the "Paris Commune". This is the only surviving artifact from the most famous Kyiv squat, where representatives of Ukrainian art lived. Such iconic personalities as O. Golosiy, V. Tsagolov, M. Mamsikov, A. Gnilitsky, Y. Solomko, I. Chichkan and others went through this door.

In general, the collection is estimated by the experts of the auction house at $800,000 - $1,000,000 and according to the art critics of the "Golden Section" is the best one-piece collection exhibited so far.
