Author Biography
Yefim Cheptsov (1874-1950) - Russian and Soviet painter. Born in the village. Medvenka, Kursk province. He moved to Kiev, where he graduated from the drawing school at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. In 1895 he returned to St. Petersburg. Studied at the art studio of M. Tenisheva (1901-1904). He painted the church in Florence under the guidance of Professor Preobrazhensky. Studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1905-1911) under V. Savinsky, J. Tsionglinsky, V. Makovsky. For the painting "At the Doctor's" he received the title of artist and the right to travel abroad (1911). Visits museums in Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Florence, Rome, and then settles on the island of Capri. For the canvas "Capri" was awarded a second trip to Italy, as well as to Holland and Belgium. After his return he lived in St. Petersburg, but for the summer he moved to his homeland in Medvenka, where he made numerous field studies and sketches. Participated in exhibitions of the A. Kuindzhi Society (1925-1930), and AHRR-AHR (1922-1932). He taught at the studio of the Academy of Arts (1926-1929), at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the CVC (1933-1941), at the Moscow City Pedagogical Institute. V.P. Potemkin (1945-1949). He worked in the genre of landscape and everyday painting. Honored Artist (1946). The works are kept in numerous museums and private collections in Russia, Ukraine and other countries.
