Author Biography
Georg Philipp Rugendas (1666-1742) is a German painter and engraver known for his battles. Born in Augsburg into a family of watchmakers. He studied with the historical painter Isaac Fisches (1683-1687). He went on study trips to Rome (1689), Vienna (1690-92), Venice (1692), then returned to his hometown (1695). He was elected head of the Imperial City Art Academy (1710). He lived and worked in Augsburg. The artist's works are stored in the world's largest museums, galleries in Germany, Austria and private collections. Lot 1
