Biography
Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan (Piet Mondrian, 1912) (1872-1944) is a Dutch artist, one of the founders and leaders of abstract art in world art. Born in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Studied at the State Academy of Arts in Amsterdam (1892-1897). He taught drawing at elementary school. His early work was executed in the manner of the old Dutch masters, although the influence of impressionism became increasingly tangible. He attended the International Exhibition of Contemporary Artists in Amsterdam (1911), where he also presented cubist pieces by Pablo Picasso, Andre Deren, Georges Braque. Introducing the works of the Cubists, Mondrian himself began experimenting with the forms, simplifying them. Differently combining the plane of the depicted objects, he sought the impression of structural, rhythmic clarity. The true success and reputation of the "most famous immigrant", Pitt Mondrian, was fortunate enough shortly before his death, in the ocean - in the United States, where the artist moved in 1940. His first successful personal exhibition (1942) succeeded. The art of Mondrian largely influenced contemporary painting, architecture and design.
